It didn’t work. Would it have worked? Somehow in all her reasoning she had forgotten she worked with a group of profilers. Did they make this happen?

It used to hurt, a pain not unlike a knife buried in his heart. These days it’s a soft ache, a wound that has never entirely healed, but all the scar tissue has rendered it almost invisible, untouchable.
On this day, every year, he uncovers it. He lets himself bleed and cry and hurt.
And covers it up again.

She had barely had the time to make a difference in the world. Not Slayer-difference, who cared about that? But a real difference; the difference that came from loving someone, from letting someone love you.
He had to give her time. He had to save her.

“Never dying seems pretty neat, no? Think of all the stuff you could learn!”
“Ooh!” Willow perked up, her ears reddening as she saw Xander’s grin. “Not without you, though. You?”
Xander smiled.
“Not without you,” he echoed.
